Preliminary competition closes out strong

The temperature hovered around 100 degrees for much of the day, but a good crowd and 13 classes of horses didn’t let the heat bother them Wednesday night in “The Big Oval” at the 86th Annual Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration. It was the final night of preliminary classes before the World Grand Championship classes begin Thursday night.

The championship nights of The Celebration are upon us.  The excitement is growing and for those that leave under that spotlight a dream will become a reality and the tears of joy will be flowing from friends and family.  It is truly what this is all about.

Blacklist continues at top for the fourth year

It was a hot and humid Tuesday night at the end of August, but the competition was strong at the 86th Annual Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration. A total of 13 classes were on the schedule for the evening. In what has become as traditional as Ronnie Spears and White Diamond Dollar presenting the Stars and Stripes is Gary Haile offering an energetic rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner”. Ron Adams of Emmanuel Church Pentecostal opened with the prayer.

Equine Obituary – Skywalk's Threat

Alex Luttrell and the entire Luttrell Family are saddened by the loss of one of their favorites, Skywalk’s Threat, who passed away August 26, 2024, due to complications with colic surgery. His barn name was Luke. Luke was a once in a lifetime walking pony and was loved by so many as well as Alex who rode him to multiple titles. He will be forever missed, but never forgotten.

Suzanne was born June 10, 1946 in Lincoln County, Tennessee to the late Eugene Cunningham and Martha Francis Wilson Cunningham. She grew up on a farm in Cyruston where she and her late brother Doug Cunningham would milk cows and help with the family farm.

Repeat winners and ecstatic novice champions highlight the morning

It was the Monday before Labor Day, so in the Tennessee Walking Horse industry that means we have come to the final morning session of the Celebration. The weather remained beautiful for all to enjoy the show in Cooper Steel Arena. Pleasure and weanling halter classes were what the 13-class schedule for the morning consisted of, closing out with a final equitation class.
