Margie C. Payne of Nashville, Tennessee, who became a resident of Murfreesboro in 2019, went to be with the Lord on May 20, 2026.

Mrs. Payne was born April 3, 1937, in Orange County, California, to the late Rufus Wilson Compton and Addie Mae Claxton Compton of Bell Buckle, Tennessee.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Marion Joan Compton of Nashville; brothers, LeVon Albert Compton of Bell Buckle, Omer Compton of Hermitage and Rufus Charles Compton of Bell Buckle; and nephew, Donald Compton, who passed away in 2008.

Mrs. Payne is survived by her daughter, Trena E. Payne, formerly of Nashville and now a resident of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Kaleb D. Payne of Nashville and Jada J. Payne of Brentwood; sister, Joy Mai Compton of Shelbyville; and a loving extended family of nieces, nephews and their children, including DeDe and Traci Compton; Charles Compton; David and Kathy Compton of Unionville and their children, Paul and Jennie; Tim Compton and his daughter, Ariel; Chris Milliken and his children, Mercede, Haley and Alexandra; Stephine Miller and her children, Christian, Tanner and Luke; and Chad Milliken of Nashville.

Mrs. Payne was a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church in Nashville and retired after 48 years of service with South Central Bell.

She was also an avid Tennessee Walking Horse fan and longtime Celebration box holder. Her love for the breed and the Celebration was an important part of her life, and she looked forward to the tradition and fellowship surrounding the event.

Mrs. Payne was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Visitation with the family will be held at Murfreesboro Funeral Home on Monday, May 25, 2026, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. and Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Willow Mount Cemetery in Shelbyville, Tennessee, with Pastor Don Herron officiating.
