James (Jim) Singleton passed on August 2nd after a brief illness, surrounded by family, at his beloved farm in Nolensville, TN. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Jackie Singleton, whom he accredits many of their combined accomplishments. For without her none of these things were possible.

Starting his legacy in the industry with two Midnight Sun broodmares, Jim became the FIRST Amateur/Owned & Trained World Champion after THREE workouts in a huge class, on one of the rainiest nights of the Celebration in 1976 on GOODTIME SPIRIT. Jim & Jackie went on to raise and train many more including Multi-World Champion DELIGHT’S SUMMER GIRL, ROMEO’S PARADISE and DELIGHT’S GOOD LADY a 2yr old Futurity champion and dam to Multi-World Champion MR. COPPER TOP.

The beginning of the flat-shod division is where Jim and Jackie excelled with Mr. Coppertop, Lot’s Of Cash, Casey’s Sure Hit and many more. Deciding to breed Mr. Copper Top was a huge undertaking but so rewarding with many great minded and naturally talented offspring including MR. RED RAMBLER, MR. REACH, MR. COPPER CANYON and MR. PACESETTER from his first crop of foals.

One of the most influential in the TWH industry during a very monumental period in the breed. He and his wife Jackie were at the forefront of the inspection program. He always advocated for the natural talents of the TWH. Involved in NHSC, PWHAT, NWHA, FOSH and many other flats- shod associations through the years, he was a DQP, Exhibitor and Judge. Also judged Rocky Mountain Horses thru out Kentucky.

Jim retired as a FARRIER of many breeds and consult of renowned Veterinarian Dr. Dewit Owens of Franklin, TN. While horses were a very huge part of their lives, they also raised six children Jerry (Patricia) Singleton, Mary Jo Deane, Jeffery (Barbara Madar) Singleton, John Singleton, Tina Singleton and Lisa (Steve) Sager. Tina was very involved with the training and showing which helped keep the Singleton name relevant for many years.

Jim’s last visit to a horse show was August 20th 2025, THE MAIDEN preliminaries. He enjoyed visiting with friends he had not seen in years and the multitude of talented 2yr olds in the ring, commenting on how far the Pleasure horse has evolved from those early days. He wasn’t able to attend the finals but thanks to The Report TV he was able to watch it with the help of his daughter while in the hospital.

Jim Singleton will always be known for his honesty, quiet demeanor, knowledge of the breed and a friend to many! Please consider sending any condolences to St.Jude Children’s Hospital in his name.
