Obituary- Eyvand Eugene Sapp “Papaw Sapp”

Eyvand Eugene Sapp also known as “Papaw Sapp”, of Greenville, KY passed away on Monday, May 4th, 2026 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Muhlenberg County on October 15th, 1933, the son of the late Isome Sapp and Lizzie Lovell Sapp. He retired from the Muhlenberg County Road Department after 15 years of service and also worked for 15 years at National Lock. He spent his life outdoors, where he found great joy coon hunting and working the land. Farming was a way of life for him, and he continued to farm until the age of 80, taking pride in raising and selling corn and the relationships he built along the way. Above all, he was a devoted family man who dearly loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He treasured the time spent with them and the memories made together.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty Jo Sapp, two daughters, Carolyn Dennis and Cynthia Norton, and one grandson, Bud Parsons.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 9th at 12:00 PM at Leigh’s Chapel General Baptist Church in Greenville with Bro. Roger Wright officiating, assisted by Bro. Tony Shanks. Burial will follow in Old Jackson Cemetery in Greenville, KY. Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by one son, Tim (Cindy) Sapp; one daughter, Joyce (Stephen) Hodges; eight grandchildren, Kim (Wade) Winters, Christy (Norman) Wood, Michael (Michelle) Gardner, Troy (Lisa) Gardner, Jamie (Shannon) Wilson, Amy (Philip) Trimble, Isome (Crystal) Sapp, and Lacey (Kevin) Johnson; eighteen great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; best friends of over 60 years, Jerry and Ann Winn; and his companion, Mary Stinson.
Visitation will be held at Leigh’s Chapel General Baptist Church on Friday, May 8th from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Saturday, May 9th from 10:00 AM until time of funeral.
